This is a Samsung Notebook 9. Starting in at $1,399, this is one of the lightest computers that has windows 10 ultraportables. By the title of the device suggests Samsung reportedly made famous S pens in the past. After a week of testing by Engadget employees, they said how the device has its uses, but most won’t miss out by skipping it.
The cool thing about this laptop is that it’s extremely light making the Notebook easy to carry around. Coming in at only 2.2 lbs this means its surprisingly lighter than most 13-inch laptops. It definitely feels like you are carrying a tablet with a keyboard almost within it’s light weight
Even though it is portrayed as a not too bad computer, Notebook has tiny bezels with simple, and a silver color scheme. It’s not to pretty of a computer. Like other machines like Surface Book 2 13 and HP Spectre x360, the notebook looks downright plain. It seems as if Samsung to add a bit more flair to make its device standout.
The notebook has a 1080p resolution, 13.3-inch size, and 450 nits worth of brightness which are both deemed correctly adequate for this size and brand of computer. According to Dan Seifert from The Verge, with all these in mind his only complaint is that it comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio, with the after effect of using devices like the Google Pixelbook or Microsofts Surface line, which both come with 3:2 displays. Daniel says the Pen’s feels like he’s looking through a cramped tunnel.
Even though the Notebook’s design and materials contradict its premium price, internal components will justify it. The 8th-generation Core i7 processor is as powerful and snappy here as is on other 8th-generation computers. In real life, according to Luke Larson from Digital Trends, they experienced the Notebook 9 Pen to be nimble and quick, deftly capable of productivity, including photo editing. Digital Trends’s configuration was acquired with 256GB of SSD, and 8GB of RAM storage, which is average at this range of price. According to Digital Trends, they stated “The SSD was fast, just as you’d expect from PCIe storage, making reading and writing files quick and painless. It’s a good upgrade over the 2017 model Notebook 9, which featured slower SATA storage.”
Unfourtantly, the battery life is quite unacceptable for a laptop in 2018. At most, you can probably get around 4 – 5 hours of battery away from a charger. Especially if you work 10 hours a day and if you have these 5 hours cut off it seems quite unacceptable according to Dan Seifert. According to Dan despite all cons battery life has to be the worst out of all features this computer has.
In Conclusion:
Would I get this? Yes if you have a really short schedule, but no at the same time because of the fragility that Samsung has applied to this device. I carry my current laptop all the time, and if this laptop isn’t careful enough that may not be possible. But there is a lot of storage acquired with this device, and I’m downloading images, videos, and other files all the time so in conclusion, it is a 50/50 chance.
