The Mavic 2 Drone Review: The Pro Camera Vs The Zoom Camera

Mavic 2

Here is a drone that comes in two forms, the Zoom, and The Pro. The Pro is a more flexible version with many ways to set up the drone, but meanwhile, I realized that the Zoom, has amazing bright and stable drone footage with just a little fewer options. From what I’ve seen I would choose the Mavic 2 Zoom although.

I can say that the Mavic 2 can be pretty great but in two ways which I have discovered. Within two flight tests that have been taken, I realized that the Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselblad gives off a clear reflective low light image when in the recording. The Mavic 2 Zoom camera gives off a more colorful vibe but not show much with the reflective low light image. Image above by DJI

Adjustable Aperture And The Regular Resolutions

The Mavic 2 Pro has an adjustable aperture which I noticed to be something big that sticks out.  You can adjust the aperture for you so you can get the perfect amount of light in most photos you would take. This is perfect for low lighted scenarios making the darkness a peaceful vibe. I can’t complain much about this because of instead having a drone with a default aperture possibly ruining the photo especially if the scenery looks good in your eyes but not the camera. But you would probably get used to it over time when you use the drone. This is if you don’t have much photography experience.

The Mavic 2 Zoom does not have this Adjustable Aperture but instead a 48MP default super-resolution of 48MP. This is why you will notice that the Zoom has a naturally brighter glow to the photo in comparison to the Mavic Pro. This is also contributed because of the 10-bit Dlog-M Color Profile. I like this a lot since we’re not only getting a clearer photo but were also getting a lighter photo.

But for a final decision, I would choose the 48MP resolution over the Adjustable Aperture. Already enough it contributes to you having to pay an extra $200 for the drone and it’s just easier to use, especially for the lighting.

New Features, ActiveTrack 2.0

The size of this device is around 8 CM’s tall. 9 CM’s wide by the front, and 21.4 CM’s wide by the side. This makes it fairly big to their drones that I have used in the past where the drones would usually be a bit smaller. The flight time is 30 minutes for both the Zoom and the Pro. I realized this is a downgrade from the previous Phantom 3 and 4 drones. These drones have an on average one-hour long battery life.

For now, what we get for the new ActiveTrack 2.0. For those who don’t know the last ActiveTrack software was only able to detect 2d objects. The new ActiveTrack now has the ability to track down 3D objects. I saw when in comparison, the Mavic 2 with the current ActiveTrack 2.0 makes the current clear video that gets rid of the shakiness. But in contrast to the Mavic 1, the ActiveTrack is a bit shaky and seems a bit looser than the ActiveTrack 2.0

Panorama photography has been a trend for a pretty long time now. But what if there’s now a way to easily take Panorama footage? At least in my opinion. The Panorama can go in every direction you could think a drone could go.

Mavic 2: Final Thoughts

But overall, I would choose, the Mavic 2 Zoom. It’s a nice drone with footage that definitely out beats the other drones. The other drones would usually have a greyish very specific look to them. Nonetheless, I would give the Mavic 2 drone a solid 4.9 / 5 stars.[star rating=”5″]
